However, because bamboo boards are manufactured using natural grass fibers compressed with specialized resins, their physical behavior under changing moisture and temperature levels requires thoughtful installation. Suitable Subfloors and Environments Floating installations offer extraordinary versatility when dealing with problematic or mixed subfloors. They can be installed directly over concrete slabs, OSB, plywood, sound particleboard, sheet vinyl, and even existing ceramic tile, provided the base surface is clean, dry, and flat within strict tolerances. This adaptability makes floating systems the primary choice for basements, condo units with concrete floor pans, and quick room renovations where removing existing surfaces would be prohibitively messy or expensive. Understanding Glue-Down Installations The glue-down technique involves spreading a specialized elastomeric or urethane-based adhesive directly onto the subfloor using a notched trowel, then pressing individual bamboo planks firmly into the wet compound. As the adhesive cures, it forms a permanent chemical and mechanical bond between the board underside and the base foundation.
